14 Jul Pinterest's Try On
A visual interactive experience allowing the consumer to “try on” the product from home. Powered by Lens, Try On uses augmented reality to “apply” lipstick to a consumer’s face, allowing them to see what a specific shade looks like on them. Consumers can take a photo of themselves “wearing” a particular lipstick shade, and then pin it for later. Pinterest is also simplifying the search for a particular beauty look by allowing consumers to browse similar shades of lip products to the ones they tried on. If a consumer gets inspired by someone else’s pin, they can also choose to “see similar looks” to launch a Try On experience.
First of all the feature helps bringing the physical store experience online. The experience helps the consumer evaluate whether the product fits their style in multiple contexts instead of a manipulated context of instore or a product picture. It makes the product obtainable as the consumer might already feel a sense of ownership by having “tried it on”.
